Irritable Bowel Diet Guidelines

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS, is a condition where the digestive tract fails to function as it should.  People with IBS suffer from cramping, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, and abdominal pain.  IBS is result of the intestines not working as they should, although doctors do not find any specific physical evidence of either the small or large intestine malfunctioning.  It is thought that IBS is a result of the brain failing to send proper signals to the intestines, resulting in their failure to perform their digestive functions.

Another theory for IBS is that people who suffer have oversized colons, or large intestines that, for whatever reason, are very sensitive to certain types of food. Stress is also considered a factor; some people exhibit irritable bowel symptoms during stressful periods in their life.

There is no cure for IBS.  However, a proper diet for irritable bowel syndrome can help manage the symptom.
